Valley of Fire is an absolutely BEAUTIFUL place! It’s a perfect day trip from Vegas or an “on the way” stop to Zion National Park. We did the whole park in a half-day and here is our itinerary!

Driving to Valley of Fire was kind of a really neat experience. You leave the hustle and bright bustle of Vegas and then you’re dumped into suburbia and then nothingness. Then you just sort of come upon these bright red rocks that look like they’re just dropped in the middle of nowhere. Keep in mind that this is a Nevada state park with an entrance fee and ZERO cell service. If you can, bring cash to enter as it takes about five minutes for their credit card machines to connect to servers. Once past the entrance gate, you’re free to move about the park and even exit out the other direction which makes it nice to pass through on your way to Zion.

Here is the “loose” itinerary of what we did.

-Beehive Rock, Campground Road loop - Atlatl Rock, Arch Rock, Fire Cave

-Mouse’s Tank Road (photos) Petroglyph Canyon Trail to Mouse’s Tank

-Hikes - Fire Wave (Parking Lot #3 on MTrd), White Dome’s Trail (end of MTrd), Pink Canyon (36°28’47” N 114°31’36” W)

-Elephant Rock at Exit

Since the “real” Wave hike in Arizona seems a little out of our reach being permit only our main goal was to see this wave. There was a rainstorm rolling in so we made a point to do this before anything else. The hike was mostly “downhill” to the wave and farly easy. It took about an hour all together and since we were on the verge of rain and the sun was tucked behind clouds it was not bad. The wave part was amazing, but the views beyond were even more incredible. I’m also a cactus lover and the cactuses and succulents along this path were amazing!

We then traveled throughout the rest of the park, pulling off to look at animals and take some photos. There are lots and marked parking for different trails. The coloring of the rocks and sand were unreal and some of the plants were so minty green and lilac they looked fake - like a dream. Please remember that this is the desert and no matter the weather you will need sun coverage and WATER. We also felt the bathrooms were easily accessible. This park has A LOT to offer and could really use a morning ‘til evening visit and we plan to be back soon!
