The Cliff Walk

Rhode Island seems to be a drive-through location that people pass through going North or South, but you will seriously be missing out on some of the charmiest little towns and beach spots ever if you don’t stop! One of my favorite places to stop is the Cliff Walk and the adjacent beach.

Where Is It?

The Cliff Walk is along the shore of Newport, Rhode Island.

How To Find It?

Parking is the hard part, especially because the cliff walk is a bit long and in the middle of people’s communities. I’ve found the best parking at 199 Naragansett Ave or Easton’s Beach. Only park where it is legal and DO NOT block a local’s driveway. Then walk toward the shore, trust me - you’ll see lots of signs.

Are There Bathrooms?

There are at the beach section, but only during season! There are however outhouse placed around and multiple gas stations prior and after the beach.

Is There Shopping, Food or Novelty Museums?

Only during season is there open beach stands and restaurant/ rec area on the beach. There are however Newport museums and shopping areas just minutes away - including guided tours!

Is This Handicap Accessible?

The only part accessible would be the first part of the walk from the beach or the beach itself. There are many places on the trail that have EXTREME drop-offs, require you to walk over rocks (sometimes unsteady), and jump from one part of the path to the next. It’s nothing major, but unfortunately not fully ADA available.

Is This A Family-Friendly Destination?

I absolutely think so. I saw kids of all ages on the trail as well as the beach. The beach also has HUGE shells and crabshell pieces that wash up and are fun to dig through. During the summer swimming is great as well as the beachside stands. However, parking is hard to come by at this time also.
